Discover a land of light between sky and sea. Skagen is the town with more sunshine hours than anywhere else in Denmark, and the area offers wonderful beaches: from the beach at Grenen you can even see the meeting of two seas (the North Sea and the Baltic), whose waves clash with each other. In short, the whole Skagen's headland is a fantastic landscape of unspoiled nature, moors and dunes surrounded by the sea: it is no surprise that Skagen has attracted tourists since the mid 1800's, and many artists choose the town as the ideal place to live and work. Here you will find, therefore, also amazing cultural offers, many museums, art galleries and activities. Besides Skagen's Museum, which features an extraordinary collection of paintings, you can visit the houses where Drachmann and the Anchers lived, while at the Skagen town and local museum you can find out more about Skagen's history and the life in the old fishing village. At a short distance from the hotel lies the harbor, where every morning you can experience fish auctions. The catch of the day is always a good bet when you eat at one of the many restaurants in town. If you move a little further away, you'll find biking and hiking trails leading to the old sand buried church, which was abandoned after sand storms covered it at the end of the 1700's, and Råbjerg Mile, a huge sand dune, which the wind constantly pushes in a slow wandering through the countryside. You can also take a ride by car to Lønstrup and the nearby Rubjerg Knude, or to Sæby where you can visit the old church. Skagen is namely a great place to stay when you explore the north of Denmark. |
